Capilano Alliance of Students Abroad is a student led non-profit created to cultivate passion and inspire students towards global change. Started by five Capilano University students in 2010, CASA is working towards creating sustainable development initiatives in Ibanda, a community in south western Uganda.
Two founders of the organization, Tess Gregory and Jessica McElroy embark on CASA's first pilot project for May and June! The organization's focus is to increase community member's access to information. With government agencies and the civil society sector relying more and more on IT Technology, learning computer skills is an important step to increasing one's employment opportunities. Currently, computer accessibility and computer literacy is limited in Ibanda - there is no library and there are only two public computers in the town. With the hopes to provide necessary computer skills to the community, Jess and Tess will be teaching Computer Literacy Programs to primary school and secondary school students, as well as a business womens group in Ibanda.
Follow them on their journey right here on this blog - with posts at least every week, stay updated with fresh news about CASA's first Pilot Project, and Jess and Tess' volunteer experience!
